We develop projects and programmes of Animal Assisted Interventions with the support of our Therapy Dogs and Specialists in IAA
IAA are all the interventions that work in the process of bonding with an animal, searching for improvements in health and quality life of the participants
This concept encompasses Animal Assisted Therapies (AAT), Animal Assisted Education (AAE) and Animal Assisted Activities (AAA)
AAT, AAE and AAA?
Animal Assisted Therapy – Complementary Intervention oriented by goals, where an animal, with a certain set of skills and abilities, forms an integral part of a therapeutic process. This process must be documented and assessed by health professionals.
Animal Assisted Education – Complementary Intervention oriented by goals, where an animal with a certain set of skills and abilities, forms an integral part of the educational process. This process must be documented and assessed by education professionals.
Animal Assisted Activities – Activities that give motivational, educative, recreational opportunities with therapeutic benefits to improve the quality of life of the participants.
It is not defined by specific goals, the encounter with the animal is completely spontaneous.
It is very important to know the professionals on the field, the previous training, the animals working and these interventions work in order to guarantee a good service.
How do AAT's Work?
Animal Assisted Therapy works as a complementary therapy to the conventional ones, such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy or psychology.
The animal may perform several functions such as behavioural reinforce, physical contact, motivational agent, learning optimizer, social facilitator, emotional source, conduct enhancer, self-esteem optimizer, multisensorial stimuli, etc.
The development of TAA’s can be done by a professional in the health area, a specialist in IAA, in charge of defining the goals and methodologies of evaluation of the proposed therapy, while also guiding the animal. In case of not being a health professionals or having goals outside of his area of work, the guide will work as a technician in IAA, accompanied at all times by a professional.
